Background: Apsara Arts Association (AAA) is a local [Cambodian] non-governmental organization created on October 2, 1998. Cambodian culture is one of the oldest in Southeast Asia. Centuries of war, especially over the last three decades, have destroyed much in Cambodia, including arts and culture. The popularity of the traditional arts seems to be weakening, and they are threatened by non-Cambodian cultural influences coming from the outside, as well. Therefore, artists from the Royal University of Fine Arts, led by Mr. ChhaySopha and Mrs. VongMetry, collectively decided to establish the Apsara Arts Association (AAA). We are supported by the Adventurer Foundation and other anonymous charities.

Our Vision: To see Cambodian arts and culture become more valued and popular in Cambodia as a whole, as well as in the world in general, thus sustaining and developing our culture. AAA’s free training for Cambodian youth covers classical and folkloric dance, as well as traditional music.

Goal:

  • Study and research, establish and disseminate arts and culture of Cambodia.
  • Develop human resources to accommodate the culture of peace.
  • Disseminate to the people of Cambodia, as well as foreigners, the value of our arts and culture.
  • Cooperate with national and international organizations as partners.
  • Promote the rights of the children in conformingwith the international convention on children’s rights.
  • Promote and preserve the accomplishments of the old teachers in order to be able to provide experiences to the next generation.
  • Contribute to poverty reduction in Cambodia, especially by helping children from poor families and orphans.
  • To assist the children to have the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills that is best for the nation.

  • Education and training.
  • Give foreign language lessons, part-time classes to students, other vocational skills.
